Are free eBooks the solution for our funding issues?

Our Principal is interested in online textbooks for use on computers, personal pc tablets, or e-readers ...

He said that some publishers will start offering free eBooks instead of hardcopy textbooks, but most of us are wary of eliminating real books. I don't know how companies would make any money off that approach either. It seems like a more expensive plan since each teacher and student would need to have their own technology, which our district and our parents can't afford. (James - San Diego)

"Free" always sounds like a good deal, but like you said unless those companies, or the tech giants, want to donate machines to our school, we'd have no platform for them.
